Aoyama became a full-time 250 cc World Championship racer in 2004, joining the Honda team. For the 2009 season, Aoyama joined Team Scot, riding the powerful Honda RS250RW. His impressive record that season included four wins and three second-place finishes. In the final, crucial race, he scored the World Championship title and finished the season with 261 points.
