[About the TYPE35 -1928 Targa Florio-]
The Type35 was a race car designed by Ettore Bugatti, founder of the Bugatti brand that started business as an automobile maker in 1909 in the Alsace region (now France). It ran on an overhead cam straight-eight engine. Along with a unique brake drum, aluminium wheels casted as a single piece, and unique leaf spring used for the suspensions, the Type 35 packed various new and innovative designs as thought up by Ettore himself.
First appearing in 1924, the Type 35 performed strongly in various situations, allowing it to take many victories during its time. In 1929 it managed to win first place in the first ever Monaco GP that took place in Monte Carlo. It continued to perform strongly in the following year and managed a one-two finish in the second Monaco GP. It also managed to win Targa Florio for five years straight between the years of 1925 to 1929.
Within the participants of the 1928 Targa Florio was one of the greatest female drivers, Eliska Junkova (also known as Elizabeth Junek), the driver for the #58 Type 35. Nicknamed "Queen of the Steering Wheel", she was known to have competed and bested the greatest male drivers of her time. While she did not win the 1928 Targo Florio, she managed to compete evenly against famous drivers such as Louis Chiron, Luigi Fagioli and Tazio Nuvolari. She was also in the lead partway during the race.
In the past few years Bugatti has released various new supercars with model names such as "Divo" and "Chiron", based off famous Bugatti drivers. Among such models is an "Elizabeth Junek" edition, paying respect to her successes in the motorsport world.
