AOA Decals 48-001 Decals for 1/48 USMC Grumman A-6A Intruders in Vietnam War: Intruders from the Beach
Note: This set does NOT include aircraft kit. Instructions are provided on the enclosed mini-CD (Adobe pdf file).
AOA 48-001 is designed for HobbyBoss Models 81708 kit.This extensive and comprehensive decal sheet covers the three land based USMC A-6 Intruder squadrons during the Vietnam War (VMA(AW)-225, -242, and -533); allowing the option to represent one of many possible Intruders from any timeframe for each squadron.
The set contains 64 marking options for 45 Aircraft:
- 7 options (5 aircraft) for VMA(AW)-225 Vikings while at Da Nang Air Base, South Vietnam, from 1969-1971
- 19 options (17 aircraft) for VMA(AW)-242 Batmen while at Da Nang Air Base, South Vietnam, from 1966-1970
- 19 options (13 aircraft) for VMA(AW)-533 Hawks while at Chu Lai Air Base, South Vietnam, from 1967-1969;
- 19 options (10 aircraft) while at Royal Thai Air Base Nam Phong (aka "The Rose Garden"), Thailand, from 1972-1973
Accurate stencils provided for one A-6A; however, the stencils provided are complete airframe stencils which have never been available before. The stencil sheet which can be separately purchased from set AOA 48-002
Decals also included for MER/TER numbers (various types), crew helmets, and fuel tanks.

How to apply water-slide decals:
1. Preparation: to achieve better result, a gloss or semi-gloss coat is very important. It will make a smooth layer which the decals will suction to and make it much easier to apply and set them.
2. Cut out the decal you need (do it on cutting mat)
3. Grab the decal with tweezers, place it on the surface of the water and leave it for about 20 seconds.
4. Remove the decal from the water and place it on paper towel to remove any excess water.
5. Apply decal solution to the part where the decal is to be placed.
6. Slide the decal off the backing paper on to the model. Using a paint brush or cotton bud is a good way to do this without damaging the decal.
7. Use the brush, knife or cotton bud to position the decal. Using your paper towel, gently dab the decal and soak up the excess water (decal softner is also recommended at this stage. After applying softner, the decal will suction to the part and flatten out smooth.)
8. When the decal is completely dry, give another coat of varnish or Klear/Future to seal it.
