In September of 1976, AAC 688 introduced a new dual Fin Retaining Clip for the new AIM-9L Sidewinder, creating the LAU-7/A-4.
In June of 1980, AAC-736 was introduced and the launcher became the LAU-7/A-5.
The LAU-7/A-5 was the launcher used when two VF-41 F-14A's shot down two Libyan Su-22 Fitters over the Gulf of Sidra on 19 August 1981 .
