Built in the shipyards of Guarnizo (Cantabria) in 1765, the San Juan Nepomuceno meet different performances until 1803 when she was put in command of Cosme Damian Churruca. Two years later he would take part in the Battle of Trafalgar forging his legend: seriously wounded and surrounded by up to 6 English ships, Churruca forbade their officers to surrender and ordered to continue fighting. After the death of Churruca and his deputy commander, the commanding officer ordered to surrender with hundreds wounded and dead on board. Captured by the Royal Navy, the San Juan Nepomuceno was towed to Gibraltar and exposed to visitors, who had to take their hut off in a sign of respect before entering the chamber of the master.
