Tamiya 77510 1/700 US Hornet Aircraft Carrier - CP110 (31705)
This is a plastic model kit, which comes unassembled and unpainted. So glue, model paints and other basic modelling tools are additionally required.
Completed in 1941 as the third Yorktown-class carrier and the U.S. Navy's eighth carrier overall, the Hornet took part in many operations before succumbing to enemy attack in the South Pacific in 1942. She is most famous for acting as the base for the Doolittle Raid in April 1942, launching B-25 bombers to attack Japan. This model depicts the ship as she appeared during that operation and even includes parts for sixteen B-25 bombers. With a high level of detail throughout, including the elevator walls, modellers can really enjoy creating a diorama of the launch scene.
Completed Length: 350mm
The Hornet was the eigth aircraft carrier of the U.S. Navy and the third one of the Yorktown type constructed under the limitations of the naval treaty. The Hornet had excellent equipment and anti-torpedo protection, but her anti-aircraft armament consisting of eight 5-inch (12.7mm) single-barrelled A.A. guns (38 calibres long) was rather weak. She was powered by turbine engine offering 120,000hp and made a speed of 34 knots.
